John Hartley is an artist and researcher based in Cornwall and London
His research interests include collapse and emergence, in water and in knowledge.
Recent project have included the construction of a sea research vessel (a kayak) from office furniture and the replanting of Williams Blake’s lost Angel Oak, which he saved from the margins of landmass and imagination.
He is co-director of Difference Exchange, an arts organisation that delivers international collaborative projects, such as Colm Cille’s Spiral, which reimagined 7th Century histories of cultural exchange and innovation. He previously worked as Arts Council England’s Art and Ecology Strategy Officer and is guest editor for Digital Creativity’s special edition on Arts and Ecology.
